THE LIONEL YOUNG BAND |
|
AUGUST
24th 2011 - 10 PM
Lionel,
a native of upstate New York, started his musical career on the violin,
studying at the prestigious Eastman School of Music. After branching out
into bluegrass, Lionel "turned the corner into a quirky brand of blues.
Nearly everyone who’s seen him says, “I’ve never seen anyone play violin
and make it sound like a guitar!"" A welcome addition to the blues scene,
The Lionel Young Band
"elaborates on a retro feel with unique
interpretations of originals and covers, like “Night Train” and Magic
Sam’s “Feels So Good.”" (Blues
Revue)

KENNY
NEAL |
|
AUGUST 18
2011 - 10 PM
Kenny Neal
was born in New Orleans and began making music with his father (blues harmonica player Raful Neal) at a young age. Buddy Guy recruited the multi-instrumental "swamp blues guitarist" at the age of 17 and took him on tour as his bassist. After a lot of work and experience, Neal was dubbed *one of a mere handful of truly inventive young contemporary guitarists" by the Chicago Tribune. Kenny
Neal is an outstanding talent with a "bright contemporary feel" & "swamp sensibility" that keeps him a part of the who's-who of the blue
scene.

BILL SIMS JR
&
MATT SKOLLER |
|
AUGUST 9th
TUESDAY - 7 PM
Bill
Sims Jr. doesn’t allow any one blues genre define his personal playing
style. Raised in Ohio,
Bill
Sims turned professional at the age of 14 and went on to learn piano
and major in music at Ohio State University. After touring with doo-wop
rhythm & blues groups and experimenting in avant-garde jazz, Sims
returned to the blues. Bill Sims Jr is considered one of the best NYC
guitar/singer front men and comes complete with a 10-hour PBS special on
his life’s works.
Firmly
engrained in the Chicago Blues' traditions, Matt Skoller's unique
harmonica stylings have a simultaneous past and present that have
represented the Chicago Blues' scene for nearly 20 years. Since 1992,
Skoller has formed his own band to rave reviews and impressive performance
residencies. "Skoller's warm, raspy vocals and succinct harmonica work
radiate confidence and maturity without flashy exhibitionism. Today he
enjoys a hard-won reputation as one of the foremost harp players in the
huge talent pool of the Chicago blues scene..."

- he is simply true to his ... heart and the rockin' soul in his
music." Michael Powers is a rare find in the music world; "an
impressive musical range and versatility - a musician for all
