JOHN NEMETH

July 8 2010 - 10 PM

Known for his full and impressive vocals, John Nemeth also  "possesses rich harmonica tone that easily brings to mind Sonny Boy Williamson and Little Walter." (Johnson)  This Boise Iowa native has been recreating some of the most authentic 50's and 60's funk/rock blues this side of the century! The Philadelphia Daily News claims, "you could swear he was freeze-dried in the 1960s, as the music has a driving, rock-'n'-soul punch that makes him seem spiritual kin to long-gone stompers Sam Cooke, Otis Redding and Jackie Wilson." Make sure that you catch the "finest new artist performing Blues in the country today". (Blueswax) And see him now! So "you can say you saw him in the early years of his soon-to-be giant career!"

JOHNNY RAWLS

THURSDAY 15 2010 - 10 PM

Johnny Rawls was born and raised in Mississippi where he was introduced to music through his grandfather, Paul Newson. Rawls began guitar at age 12 and was playing with O.V. Wright's band by his late teens. After O.V.'s death, Rawls continued to play in "The O.V. Wright" band which opened for the likes of B.B. King, Little Milton & Bobby Bland. Johnny started his own record company, Deep South Soul, in 2002 and has released his CD's Lucky Man, Live in Montana, and The Best of Johnny Rawls. NY CD Blues calls Johnny "...another of those super confident and well heeled players that makes it all look like it's just a piece of cake."

Chris Thomas King

WEDNESDAY 28 2010 - 10 PM

Born in and influenced by the rich musical culture of Louisiana, Chris Thomas King was exposed to a myriad of styles, techniques, and instruments. Taking his early exposure to differing musical genres and pairing it with his interest in traditional blues music, the Grammy award winning artist (O Brother Where Art Thou) began writing in the attempt "to create a more explicit link between blues tradition and the general musical present." (Huey) King's desire for progressive blues is captured in his performances; eelctric and acoustic, funky soul, New Orleans R&B, and hip-hop all streamlined into one.

NICK MOSS & THE FLIP TOPS

THURSDAY 22 2010 - 10 PM

A native of Chicago, Nick Moss is famous for his "mastery of the classic Chicago sound." (Bill Dahl) Although he currently performs vocals, guitar and harp, Moss began his musical education on the bass guitar with Buddy Scott before joining up with legendary Chicagoan guitarist Jimmy Dawkins. After some hard earned touring blues credit, Moss started his own band and opened the record label Blue Bella Records. Moss's Play it til Tomorrow won Blues Review's 2010 "Decade's Best Blues: 25 albums that defined the past 10 years". It's with great anticipation that Terra Blues welcomes you to enjoy NICK MOSS AND THE FLIP TOPS!

BILL & CHANEY SIMS

Bill Sims Jr. doesn’t allow any one blues genre define his personal playing style. Raised in Ohio, Bill Sims turned professional at the age of 14 and went on to learn piano and major in music at Ohio State University. After touring with doo-wop rhythm & blues groups and experimenting in avant-garde jazz, Sims returned to the blues. Bill Sims Jr is considered one of the best NYC guitar/singer front men and comes complete with a 10-hour PBS special on his life’s works. Performing regularly at Terra Blues, audiences have the pleasure of hearing him perform with his talented daughter Chaney Sims. Chaney’s similarly “earthy and relaxed” voice makes her the perfect duet partner. (Time Out NY)
